People’s Budget Initiative (PBI) is a civil society coalition, which promotes the inclusion of people’s movements, grassroots organisations and NGOs in the policy processes that determine the priorities underlying government budgets in India. Presently, the key objectives of PBI are the following:

  • Empowering civil society organisations and people’s movements in different regions to participate in the discourse on priorities for the Union Budget as well as those for the State Budgets, articulating the needs and expectations of people as reflected in their grassroot level experiences.
  • Inducing an improvement in transparency in the flow of funds and their utilization in government programmes/schemes.
  • Strengthening the efforts of grassroots-level civil society groups and community groups to hold the government accountable for its policies and budgets.

Jharkhand State Budget Group holding hands with People’s Budget Initiative (PBI) aims to promote budget transparency and participation of common people in the budgetary process in Jharkhand. In this process Jharkhand State Budget Group organizes regular meetings and trainings for the partner organization from all the 24 districts to educate them about the different dynamics of budget, so that, they can sentitize the community in their intervening areas.
